Call Completion
In an increasingly competitive market network operators continue to need services that can offer competitive differentiation to a discerning market. Consumers, enterprises, common interest groups all want services that match their lifestyles and their communications patterns.
As legacy Intelligent Network services approach end-of-life and Next Generation Network rollouts remain some way in the future, network operators need a service offering that they can use to offer new and compelling services today.
Services such as Notification of Reachability (NoR) and Missed Call Notification (MCN) serve two functions:
- Increase revenue by increasing the number of completed calls
- Increase user satisfaction by improving the efficiency of the network.
As both these services are explicitely selected by a subscriber, it is possible to offer an opt-in to advertising to be carried in the notifications. Such advertising can, of course, be highly targeted and hence potentially very valuable.
Notification of Reachability (NoR)
NoR is a calling party service that allows the subscriber to be notified when someone who is currently not available (and to whom a call has just failed) becomes available. The service makes it easy for a subscriber to do something that, although possible (e.g. repeated call attempts or an SMS with delivery receipt), is expensive and awkward using standard techniques. The service is similar to 'Call Completion to Busy Subscriber' which is available in some fixed networks.
The subscriber is sent an SMS (optionally with advertising) identifying when the subscriber should be available again.
Missed Call Notification (MCN)
MCN is a called party service, which sends a simple SMS (optionally with advertising) to a subscriber identifying incoming missed calls, whether or not a voice mail was left.
