Oracle DBA

Role: Oracle DBA

Responsible to: Engineering Manager

Location: Colombo, Sri Lanka

Main Areas of Responsibility:

  • Act as DBA across a range of AEPONA products
  • Contribute on a multi-functional basis to the resolution of DB issues (development, test, deployment, support and maintenance)
  • Installing, upgrading and patching of database software, including on-going liaison with IT regarding same
  • Performance analysis and tuning
  • Troubleshooting and fault fixing
  • Development, management and support of an agreed DBA toolset for use by other engineering functions
  • Implementing, testing and supporting contingency environments
  • Backup and recovery mechanisms including on-going improvements in line with improved tool support
  • Actively monitor Oracle patch advisories and assist all teams with patch roll-out
  • Provide occasional out-of-hours support to customers as required
  • Production and maintenance of high quality documentation

These are the main elements of the job. However from time to time you may be expected to undertake tasks outside of this job description and to use your own initiative to develop the role

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering (or equally relevant subject)
  • At least 5 years postgraduate experience involving database technology
  • Certified Oracle DBA
  • DBA experience with Oracle 9.x and 10.x products including demonstrable design experience
  • Experience in installation and maintain of Oracle systems on Unix/Linux Platforms (SUN Solaris/Enterprise Linux)
  • Proven Oracle RAC experience in mission critical production environments
  • Thorough experience of working according to a Quality Management System
  • Strong awareness and interest in telecommunications
  • Experience in working effectively within a team

  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Flexibility toward travelling when required
